Yes.

But each piece on Tabula Rasa is substantially better.

And I was wrong in my prior assessments of Rautavaara (I think I mostly kept them private?). Dude is amazing. Autumn Gardens.

I gave Giacinto Scelsi's Uaxuctum a somewhat close listen earlier today (I was pretty tired, though, so not entirely focused at all times), and I quite like it or at least parts of it. The first movement is captivating. The rest less so, at least it seems to me so far (though those parts are still good if not ecstatic), but I think further close listens could well reveal a wonderful unified whole. Either way, good piece.

Sibelius Symphony #7. Man are there some amazing moments with Sibelius. His music is some of my favorite to just sit back, close my eyes, and do nothing but experience it.

My husband wrote me a note to listen to Claudio Abbado, Beethoven Symphonies #1 & #4 (Vienna Philharmonic, DG import) ... a good 4-6 years ago. I just found the note again, but I can't find the album on Amazon. ...mebbe he meant Berlin?

He may have meant Berlin. I checked my record guides, and the version of that coupling that they recommend is Karajan with the Berlin Philharmonic, with no mention of Abbado. However, Abbado with the Berlin Philharmonic is one of the complete cycles that the Penguin Guide recommends, and maybe those 2 symphonies are paired on a disc and sold separately from the rest of the cycle. The comments on the set mention Abbado having done an earlier Beethoven cycle without specifying whom he did it with, but implying that his later version of the cycle was better.

I was at byu in 2002 and heard them do this live. An experience I'll remember forever. That guy sure knows how to use silence.
