Bach experts: what are the most tear-inducing things he's done according to you?

Multiple parts in the Mass in B Minor. Can't pinpoint a specific part but I just feel wells of emotion the whole time.

Definitely one of the parts. It's incredibly powerful.

it's actually anything but tear-inducing or melancholy for me, but the largo from bwv 1056 is one of my favorite things ever (though it's one of the easiest of bach's pieces so play badly imo, i've heard the whole range of interpretations, whether on piano or harpsichord)

Yeah that's a nice one

I'm no expert either, but I'd say organ works are underrepresented so far so I'll throw out BWV543. It's one of my favorites

Going through a real "everything in life is boring except for the Goldberg Variations" phase.
I'm currently experiencing an extreme version of this. just wound up a 7 day bender at the races and listened to the Goldberg variations (gould) for 6 hours while high. I cant stand anything but this right now. too powerful. godless u jsb u r the pinnacle of mankind

Listened to Bach's harpsichord concertos last night as I was awaiting the trick-or-treaters to come to the door. It has become a Halloween tradition for me to listen to this music. Bach might have thought it strange that someone would find this to be good Halloween music, but to me it seems to fit.

indeed... but, at any rate, excellent choice, Brian.... did it seem to attract and repeal trick-or-treaters?

the only Bach seems that is obivously in the halloween mood is the prelude to the toccata... turns the lights down and play that thing really loudly... it'll scare most kids off, in the spirit of the holiday... (-:
(or, alternately, introduce them to music of the most awesome composer who ever lived)

I didn't invite the trick-or-treaters in; I took the candy out to them, so I don't think they heard it. If they had, I think most would have been too young to care either way.
