I think that Robert Johnson should be #1
He has what is said to be the greatest blues album ever and he only had 29 songs all of which were covered by famous rock artists.
just put robert on top and then keep the rest the same.

if anything, i think this list overrates robert johnson's influence a bit. for instance, out of his contemporaries i'd include charlie patton and lonnie johnson higher, without doubt.

RJ's influence is tricky because he's arguably the most influential blues musician on rock music, but not more influential within blues than the guys you said, Patton and LJ.

I have been listening to the Roots album and really love it - its just so raw !!

Dont really like the 'countried up' Maybellene, but Vince Gill is so damn good, I'll let that by.

I think T-bone Walker should be higher than BB.

do we not have a straight up "Greatest Blues Artists" list? i mean, i love this influential blues artists list and the musician/vocalist lists and such. but its odd that we don't have an overall list to match the jazz and rock lists. should we make one?

i guess nobody else thinks so? i'm gonna throw one together anyway. maybe even make some subgenre lists for pre-war, chicago, and modern blues. hopefully we can get some more discussion going in this area. i hate never talking about my favorite style of music.

A good happy birthday to Gary Moore, and the great Muddy Waters' 100th birthday.
