Yeah we need to make a distinction between actual progressive rock bands and the bands who simply influenced the genre.

I thought this was the albums thread...

This I disagree with. They aren't prog. They influenced the genre (along with every single other genre), but the band itself is not progressive.

:eh:

2112 is seen by many as one of the definitive prog albums. On the other hand, Traffic was always more psychedelic than progressive...

It's fairly influential on Prog-Metal and has substantial Prog-Metal elements to it. It doesn't really belong in the top 100, though.

Traffic are quite an eclectic band but I don't really get proggy vibes from them.

DOFP however was pretty much the first prog rock album as far as I'm concerned, it may lack the tricky time signature changes and technical musicianship one associates with prog but it's merging of rock and classical music, extensive use of mellotron and grand concept were all major influences on Yes, Genesis and Sinfield era King Crimson.

Where the hell is "Discipline" from 1981. Bruford, Fripp, and Levin all performing together. Its a fucking masterpiece.

Agreed. Discipline has to be on this list.

While I'd certainly include it in the top 100 before many of the entries on the current list, can we justify it's inclusion when King Crimson themselves have several albums greater than it, let alone the peers. I don't want to see the list dominated by 5 albums each of the top 20.

Discipline should at least be the third King Crimson album to show up.

IMO Red and Court of the CK are the only KC albums that should be above Discipline. Discipline defined prog mixed with 80s pop.

I don't know about being above Larks, but I can see it being above Starless, which is generally considered the weakest in the Fripp/Wetton/Bruford trilogy.

To me Discipline is probably the definitive 80s prog album, besides Marillion's work.
