I had only downloaded it to see if anything besides Demon Cleaner was good. And I was disappointed.

The new Star One is fuckin sweet.
Excellent range of vocalists too.

Also loved Enslaved - Whatever the new one is called.

Star One albums are comparatively a lot weaker than Ayreon i thought. Which songs did you think were good from this one?

I'd agree based on the first Star One, but I feel this one was an improvement.
I still favour Ayreon for sure.

Earth That Was, 24 Hours, Cassandra Complex (don't care so much for the chorus but the Dan Swano section in the middle is fuckin badass) and It All Ends Here would be highlights for me.

Human Equation and 01011001 alone make Ayreon an incredible group...thing.

01011001 is one of my favourite albums ever, had a massive impact on me in '08 and I absolutely adore it- though I can't blame others for not getting into it as it is fucking long (~1:40:00).
My next favourite would be The Universal Migrator part 1: The Dream Sequencer.
It's not metal, but has an awesome Pink Floyd-esque atmosphere that I also have an emotional tie to.

Listened to some melodic black metal with bits of folk recently- Istapp's Blekinge and Winterhorde's Underwatermoon.
Loved Blekinge and have listened to it around 5 times over the last couple of days, Underwatermoon I enjoyed but I'm gonna listen to it again more actively.

01011001 probably had the best set of vocalists. Hansi, Gildenlow, Anneke, Jorn, Renkse. But the electronic elements to it seemed out of place IMO. Human Equation and Electric Castle were really good albums. Oohh and Ayreonauts

Burzum - Filosofem

4/10

Better than the pathetic Det Som Engang Var album, but not too great. Jesu' Tod is pretty good though, despite the fact that I dislike it's lyrical content. The entire last half of this album is a complete waste of time. It seems like every Burzum album has at least 15 to 20 minutes of useless tracks.

Big surprise! The Jew doesn't like Burzum.

Neither does the Norwegian.

Concerning Ayreon, I didn't really get that into 01011001 because I didn't find the songs that interesting. THE on the other hand had kickass tracks like "Pain", "Love, "Loser" and "Realization". I also like Universal Migrator Pt.2 a lot. and Pt.1 is a good listen. I've only listened once through the new Star One album, but IMO, none of the tracks were remotely close to being as catchy as the ones on the first album.

Trauma, School and Love kicked ass! Magnus Ekwall and Irene Jansen were good surprises in the album. Mikael was bang on, and Labrie was a nightmare! Anyone thought Guilt Machine was any good?

I haven't listened to any Guilt Machine, but I suppose I should "complete the circle" and give it a listen.
The Devin tracks were the best ones on THE- and Loser also has Mike Baker (RIP) from Shadow Gallery as the father.

Haha its Akerfeldt for me. Devin was bad ass though. Apparently he wrote his own parts, recorded them in his studio and sent it to Arjen. or something like that

Yeah he was only in the three songs, wrote his own melodies and lyrics and Arjen found a way to incorporate them into Ayreon. He said he wouldn't sing someone elses melodies.
Akerfeldt was awesome in it too.
