Symptom below Enter Sandman, which contributed.....NOTHING to metal?!
Oh but wait, "it's played on the radio a lot", so I guess it wins.

I cannot stress how gay this popularity thing is.
Importance > popularity.

Yeah, we use different criteria than that list and use the perspective of metal, whereas that forum uses the perspective of music as a whole.

As overplayed as it is, Iron Man should be above War Pigs.

Hellhammer- Triumph of Death should be on this list.

Nope. Circle of Tyrants is closer, but still not top 100 material.

You dont think Symptom Of The Universe should be higher?

Personally, I don't. But if it is the only thing that hurt your eye in the list and other people are agreeing with you, I'll put it higher.

I always liked SotU. Maybe just because it was before awesome Megalomania, but still

Underestimating!

Of course. Impact and influence >>> popularity alone.

Same here.

And of course I agree with Sherick.

I miss the days when Am I Evil was in the top 20. At least I'm pretty sure it was...

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" at #1 seems a bit off, even by the criteria.

How is "impact" defined here? Are we speaking musical impact, as in the reputation the song has within the metal community? If that's the case, I could see it doing very well in that particular criterion. I'm just not too sure it has much going for it in terms of influence or popularity -- not in the way songs like "Iron Man" or "Ace of Spades" do. Is "Hallowed..." really all that influential or popular?

And the "less weighted" criteria seem really subjective; I'd probably only utilize those in tie-breaking circumstances.

Still, I applaud the efforts of the editor. I'm sure it took a lot of work to make this list.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Imo, it's wrong both by the criteria, and just by the satisfaction you get from listening.

Woah, I worded that really weird.

38 does seem a little low.

Hallowed is a landmark for metal.
As far as popularity, it may not do that well in "mainstream" popularity (gag), but it's HUGELY popular within the world of metal, and I think that should count more. The song has been covered by a shit-ton of metal bands and the crowd still goes insane when they play it live.
Influence would be harder to analyze.

Hallowed's mainstream popularity can be measured by the fact that the A Real Dead One live version became a top ten hit in the UK.
