Well what about Sonata Arctica? I don't have any by them. I have some epic stuff and some symphonic stuff, but don't know where to start with Sonata.

Been listening to alot of them lately. I'd start with their debut, Ecliptica, which is a great album. I'd also pick up Winterheart's Guild, which is a fantastic album. And, I'd pick up their latest offering, Days Of Grays.

Though, I enjoy all of their studio and live albums :3.

I'm sure CoB would be higher on a melodic death metal list seeing as Dragonforce aren't remotely melodeath. I don't care for either but within power metal it makes sense.
Same deal with Wintersun who'd be higher on a melodeath list but are power metally enough and popular/great enough to make it on the power metal list.

IMO DIO and Ozzy solo need to be added to the list...

Dio's a fair stretch, Ozzy I don't see at all.

No Riot?!

Mark Reale just died. Makes me wonder if they'll continue without him.

Also where's Epica? They seem to be conspicuously missing, as do Alestorm. And Gamma Ray should be higher.

Manowar is without a doubt the greatest Power Metal band of forever! They were making classic metal before Helloween even existed and they are still going strong!

There is no excuse to not see MANOWAR on the top of the list :metal:

Yeah I do think Manowar defined the genre more than anyone else.

And I see nothing wrong with adding Dio to the list.
Ozzy, on the other hand....

The only thing Dio really has in common with power metal is the fantasy themes but he is definitely rooted in traditional metal, which is the same case for Rainbow and Iron Maiden.
