Why not let the author of the thread decide?

It's pretty stupid looking to have a thrash list that doesn't correspond with the overall metal list.

Why? This list is based on thrash itself, while the main list is based on metal as a whole.

What's the problem?

You might as well just lock this thread, I stopped caring about it weeks ago.

Ok, the top 23 as it corresponds to the list:

1. Metallica- Master of Puppets
2. Slayer- Reign In Blood
3. Metallica- Ride The Lightning
4. Megadeth- Rust In Peace
5. Metallica- Kill em All
6. Venom- Welcome To Hell
7. Pantera- Vulgar Display of Power

8. Megadeth- Peace Sells But Who's Buying
9. Celtic Frost- To Mega Therion
10. Venom- Black Metal
11. Slayer- Hell Awaits
12. Metallica- …and Justice For All
13. Slayer- Seasons In The Abyss
14. Sepultura- Beneath The Remains
15. Possessed- Seven Churches
16. Exodus- Bonded By Blood
17. Pantera- Cowboys From Hell
18. Anthrax- Among The Living
19. Kreator- Pleasure To Kill
20. Slayer- South of Heaven
21. Slayer- Show No Mercy
22. Dark Angel- Darkness Descends
23. Overkill- The Years of Decay

The order of this is not negotiable because again, it corresponds to the list. The only thing that's negotiable is whether the albums in bold constitute thrash. I think the Venom albums do, but I'm not so sure about Vulgar. As for Churches, I've heard some argue its straight death whereas I've heard others argue it being death metal is bullshit and its a thrash album with satanic lyrics and guttural vocals. I'm cool with it either way.

so first order of business, are the albums in bold thrash?

Vulgar? = eh
Welcome to Hell = yes
Black Metal = yes
Possessed = it's death and thrash

I'd say yes to Vulgar and Seven Churches. Iffy on Venom.

Damn that's hard. But I dont think VDoP is thrash. Pantera were always more about attitude than overall speed.
I wanna say that Seven Churches shouldn't count because of the guttural vocals, but in that case we would also have to remove To Mega Therion, so I guess I can see SC being here.

I wouldn't consider Venom thrash though. They have much more of a punk element in their early sound and were never particularly fast.

 Dude, come on now. Witching Hour alone was considered a standard bearer in speed.

But 'fast' doesn't always equate to 'thrash'.
I'd consider them more speed metal than thrash. In fact they were a culmination of many different styles.

You aren't the only one. I think that statement can be applied to Motorhead, but not Venom. If Black Sabbath can still be considered metal in this day and age despite their bluesy idiosyncrasies, I say Venom can still be considered thrash. Especially since "thrashing" is a method which critics would describe how they would play their instruments.

Venom could go either way. Vulgar I'd consider groove metal although the thrash influence is present.
