SBG is Death's first album right? I could see that.

What about Van Halen's first album? The guitar playing on it influenced tons of metal guitarists.

Yeah but ddd doesn't consider them metal.
I'm 50/50 on it, myself.

I do think Alice Cooper and KISS should be considered metal though.

That's bullshit. Does Alex have to drum like a madman or do they need darker lyrics or what? C'mon. If that album isn't metal then it seems strange how it influenced so many metal guitarists.

Influencing metal guitarists doesnt make it metal.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree, but it's already been decided long ago.

Hotter Than Hell, Animalize, Creatures Of The Night, Revenge and Lick It Up are all metal albums.

They have some songs that could be considered metal. That doesn't make them a metal act.

I wasn't just going by influence. That album is metal and Eddie sounds just like a metal guitarist on it. It's just strange how rap is considered rock here but Van Halen's debut album isn't considered metal.

Now someone will tell me how retarded I am. :thumb:

I don't consider KISS to be metal either.

No, they have ALBUMS that are full-on metal, not just mere songs here and there.
Take a listen to Creatures sometime.
Hotter Than Hell is about as dark and heavy as any Sabbath.

I'm not trying to say that all of Van Halen's albums and songs pass as metal but their debut should. Oh well I won't bring it up anymore. Let's move on.

Not really. That is an extreme stretch. Creatures is probably the closest they have to a metal album, but that doesn't make them a metal act considering that even those albums are but a fraction of their discography.

Anyway, it has been gone over many times in this board. Van Halen, Kiss, GNR are not metal acts, even if VH1 and Rolling Stone say they are.

Yeah but a band can start out with a metal sound then get softer but that doesn't mean their first album isn't metal anymore. I was just making a case for Van Halen 1 to be metal, not the band itself. Like I said though, since it's already been discussed then I might as well forget about it.

I think in order to qualify for the list, they have to be a genuine metal band, not just a band that tinkered with metal early on.
