Just some random thoughts:

I-I-I-I-I love this record. I had no idea it was that popular/well regarded in some circles. Good.

Another favorite of mine. It's so different from most indie stuff, though...I wonder if it's the best choice to represent them. But I'm happy if it is. Great version of what was already a great song.

It's also interesting to me that there's a distinct crossover with what I would consider "power pop"--the above two bands, Belle & Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub, and so on. But there are a lot of things that fit one category but not the other.

Missing a y there.

Some other stuff that could be here, especially if you do an honorable mentions section:

The Primitives - Crash
The Housemartins - Happy Hour
The Beautiful Soul - You Keep It All In
The Wedding Present - My Favourite Dress
Johnny Boy - You Are the Generation That Bought More Shoes and You Get What You Deserve
Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks
Aztec Camera - Oblivious

Good job, Avery.
I agree with Piper about the other songs, especially "Pumped Up Kicks".

Personally, I consider Lee Remick to be the first ever indie pop song and probably the first ever indie rock song in general. I know me and Piper disagree on this but I always see the Go-Betweens and Television Personalities to be the godfathers of indie rock music in general and definitely of indie pop (and I always think indie pop was the first of the subgenres of indie and that indie pop and indie music were the same thing in the very early days).

What song do you think would be a better one for consideration?

Piper's choice of "Happy Hour" probably is their other best known song, and more representative of their sound. I don't know whether "Caravan" itself had an impact on that music or not.

"Crash", BTW, is a great record and one that would probably make my Power Pop Songs list if I ever expand it.

That takes me back, just because I had a friend in college who used to buy tons of indie pop/power pop/twee/related stuff, and made awesome mixtapes, one of which had this as its title track. Haven't heard this song in ages, have to see if I can find it.

Good stuff. What are your personal favourite indie pop artists/songs/albums, rich?
