Always thought "I Wanna Be Adored" or "She Bangs the Drum" were bigger songs than "Fools Gold", though I don't have a problem with it, since it's a great song.

Also isn't "Where Is My Mind" the bigger Pixies song? It came first, it's more popular, not that seeing "Debaser" there is a problem.

I originally had LWTUA as #1 and I still think it should be. I don't think I even had SLTS in the top 5 originally. I think SkullKid using Popularity as a criteria is at odds with the idea of alternative music. Popularity amongst Alternative fans absolutely, but not Popularity as a piece of music as a whole.

I appreciate your inclusion of some Clash songs; an important distinction between their punk songs, and their obviously alternative songs.

I really don't think either the Clash or Bowie should be considered alternative.

Really? Why? Sure their influence is heavily rooted in their first years and their punk ideology, but you can not call songs such as lost in the supermarket, train in vain, or rock the casbah as simply punk; they are much more than that, like the songs Waiting room by fugazi and celebrated summer by husker du

everytime this is brought up, i never hear a good example why the clash are not given partial status as alternative; people think that they are too heavily rooted in punk, and that is just not true (they were bigger than that and were rooted in many genres of music)

This is the problem I think. Alternative is just used loosley, we need to come to some sort of consensus to what it includes and what it doesn't, because no one seems to be sure.

edder: Link Wray's "Rumble" is alternative rock?

I've seen a list very similar that one you posted somewhere else before, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

As I mentioned previously the songs were elected by the importance in the creation, evolution and expansion of alternative rock.

Personally I considered "Rumble" as a key song in the creation, not just for the alternative rock but also for the punk.
I know very well that "Rumble" was a hit in its time, peaking 14 in the Hot 100, but that does not stop us to recognize that this song is very influential in this genre.

Hüsker Dü is a band that I think would do better on the albums list, I have all their albums and I consider 5 of theirs albums for the top 100.
As long as the songs I do not find a particular song of them to be added in the list.
I was considering "Makes No Sense At All" and "Do not Want To Know If You Are Lonely" for the list but as I was unsure about it I decided not to add the songs.
