Congratulations. You managed to spell Otis Redding wrong two different ways in the same post.

This was released while he was still alive.

On the album list you left off "The Buddy Holly Story Volume 2" which is not a collection album. It contains 6 songs that had never before been released including "True Love Ways."

Great idea for lists by the way. Here's some others for the song list:

Weekend - Eddie Cochran
Hard To Handle - Otis Redding
Free as a Bird - Beatles
Learning The Game - Buddy Holly'
What To Do - Buddy Holly
I Got A Name - Jim Croce
I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song - Jim Croce
My Way - Elvis Presley

I am not an original album list editor but I guess The Buddy Holly Story Volume 2 could/should be added. Any idea on how high it should be?
And I think Live at the Harlem Square Club is criminally low. one of the greatest archival releases in rock history plus it's rated #11 on Sampson"s Live albums list. I don't see how it's below CODA anyway.

I'd make it #6, but I also think that "Reminiscing" is a bit high.

Some songs which haven't been mentioned but probably should make these lists:
Miss You - Aaliyah
Buffalo Soldier - Bob Marley
Valleys of Neptune - Jimi Hendrix
Too Much Love Will Kill You - Queen (Freddie Mercury)

I got my sub-list to 40. Dates corrected via Excel. I also gave the list a much more respectful name.

If anyone can help this get to 50, that would be really awesome.

Ryan, I put your updated list in first post. If you find another ten albums let me know. Also changed Otis spelling for good.

Ryan, here are 3 more:

Soup – Blind Melon, released 2 months and 6 days before Shannon Hoon died: 8/15/95-10/21/95
Highway to Hell – AC/DC, released 6 months and 23 days before Bon Scott died: 7/27/79-2/19/80
King and Queen – Otis Redding and Carla Thomas, released 8 months and 24 days before Otis died: 3/16/67-12/10/67

Wikipedia was my source for all dates.

EDIT: I can't find an exact date for the release of At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band, but it was July, 1971, and Duane Allman died October 29, 1971.

Another one where I don't have the exact release date: Gram Parsons died September 19, 1973. His album GP was released in January of 1973.

If anyone is revising the albums list, he might consider I Am the Cosmos by Chris Bell.

Ain't That Good News - Sam Cooke (released March 1, 1964. Died on December 11, 1964) Time between: 9 months, 10 days
Relapse - Ministry (released March 23, 2012. Band member Mike Scaccia died on December 23, 2012) Time between: 9 months
The Uplift Mofo Party Plan - Red Hot Chili Peppers (released September 29, 1987. Band member Hilel Slovak died on June 25, 1988) Time between: 8 months, 27 days
Built To Last - Grateful Dead (released October 31, 1989. Band member Brent Mydland died on July 26, 1990) Time between: 8 months, 25 days

Finally updated Ryan's list. Now we need to expand main list to 100 entries and we are golden.

I am thinking we could/should split this thread into two different ones, one for albums and one for songs for better navigation. Everybody's fine?

That would be fine, but is anyone going to be working on the albums list? If so, that person should make the new thread. If not, it doesn't matter who makes it.
