That's not even remotely true. Not only is it an apples-to-oranges comparison (an artist versus a song), "Stairway" has huge popularity, greater than any Lady Gaga song.

Now, if you'd like to start behaving like an adult and discussing the lists in a reasonable way, please do. Right now you're just annoying people.

I don't think there's any need to scrap the list, but we can certainly discuss changes. The last time we revised the Beatles list, I made the argument that the top song should be a hit single because the Beatles were so big on the singles charts, and ADITL was somewhat represented by having Pepper atop their albums list, and I think that argument found some favor. Should that also apply to the songs' placing on the overall songs list? Interesting question.

Which gets back to the fact that as objective as we try to make things, ultimately different editors are going to draw different conclusions. It's the nature of the beast. I personally wouldn't rank ADITL as the highest-ranking Beatles song, but there's certainly a good case to be made--and I personally would rather have some contradictions among the different lists than to have one person exercise control over everything (or to have, say, a majority vote over everything), but I understand why some people feel differently about that, too.

I can live with changes, but personally, I always thought this list looked a little messy. Stuff like You Shook Me All Night Long at #54, ...Teen Spirit and Yesterday in the 30's, things like that. I always thought the former wasn't great enough for top 100 and the two latter songs were top-20 material, but that's probably just me.

Yes, as much as I like Tool, I'm not sure any of their songs belong on this list. I certainly don't think Ænema is their greatest song either.

I agree that the list needs some hip hop, especially considering that the definition of rock we're working with here at DDD includes the genre as part of the rock umbrella.

We could add The Message and Nuthin' but a "G" Thang to the list, for starters.

The Message needs to be top 100. Seriously. Other rap songs I might add are Rapper's Delight and Fight The Power. Maybe something by Tupac could make it too, but I don't know nearly enough hip-hop to really say anything.

On an unrelated note, A Day in the Life needs to drop off the top 10. It's probably the most acclaimed Beatles song, but not the greatest. That would be either Hey Jude or Yesterday (probably Hey Jude).

I'd have "Hey Jude" ahead of "Yesterday" because HJ is definitely rock, while "Yesterday" is considered rock just because The Beatles did it.

I think the reason why "Aenima" is on the list is that at one time it was very high on the '90s songs list, so it was included here to make this list kind of consistent with that one. I think "Jesus Christ Pose" is on the list for the same reason.

What is Yesterday if not rock?

"Yesterday" is pop or adult contemporary.

Another thing that I believe is completely missing from the list is disco. I'd say that at a minimum, "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees and "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor should be added.

So disco is rock, but pop and country aren't?
