Putting Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson ahead of U2 is like putting Bieber ahead of Elvis. We are talking about music, not major ass shaking and dancing

I'm not sure whether a beiber/elvis comparison is relevant, three solo pop artists against a great rock band, band of the 80's will do me, if the other three are above based on the criteria so be it.

MJ vs U2
Influence: MJ
Popularity: MJ
Cultural Impact: MJ
Musical Impact: MJ

Prince vs U2
Influence: Prince
Popularity: Prince
Cultural Impact: Prince
Musical Impact: Prince

Madonna vs U2
Influence: Tie (or Madonna)
Popularity: Madonna
Cultural Impact: Madonna
Musical Impact: Tie (or Madonna)

I will back every single one of these up if you want me to.

The only criterion that I would definitely give to U2 vs. any of these 3 artists is musical impact vs. Madonna. I'd say they're close to Prince in cultural impact, close to Michael Jackson in musical impact, and lose the other 9 comparisons.

I think U2 might be more popular than Prince.

The way I see it is that U2 has a slight edge in albums, but Prince has a pretty big advantage in singles, so Prince wins overall popularity. Not by very much though.

Def Leppard is above Metallica... isn't that strange? also, Hall & Oates seems too low.

i dont want to form an argument though. i'm lazy. and this is DDD, where logical arguments aren't really useful. lets just assume that i'm right.

Yes can you back some of these up? and just dont base things on US. I cant see how musical impact is a clear given to all three or cultural for that matter, and U2 has had more influence that what you give them credit for.

Perhaps you could tell him which ones you agree with, so he can just focus on the others.

I think this list weighs album popularity heavily. Def Leppard does very well there, but I would think that Metallica's advantage in influence would more than make up for that. Hall & Oates do well in popularity, better than Motley Crue I think, but because Motley Crue's albums were a little bigger, they're ahead of Hall & Oates.

I suspect those lists Deany made were exclusively to combat a rockist troll we had a few weeks ago.

major ass shaking is great. definitely better than minor ass shaking. although dominant seventh ass shaking still is tops imo imo.
