Are these posts foreshadowing that Zep should be #1?

... these posts are only for more exacting information /background as it relates to charts/sales which saves some guessing and assumptions .... the question of greatest has other facets and arguments to be made for the greatest rock artists that existed during the decade of the 70`s ... what do you think folks would have said on Jan 1, 1980 ... when asked who were the greatest rock artists of the last decade? .... would it be different from today when the question is asked for the 70`s .... Take care

I do like him.

I noticed.

It seems quite unnecessary to edit out the part where I say I prefer Led Zeppelin by a wide margin as I'm hardly participating in this argument. I take it you dislike Stevie Wonder?

... the Charts shown are those that generally represent the biggest markets for Western Rock music during the 70`s

In order

USA
Europe (if listed as a group)
or depending on the year
The UK and/or Germany
Canada
France
Italy
Australia

I have only shown Japan for trivia as their market for Western Rock music is very small and much less than Australia and about the size of New Zealand ... even though their domestic music market is larger than the UK or Germany .... as trivia there are only in the area of 10 Western Artists that have ever sold more than a million units in Japan ... Take care

Yes Taro, that was uncalled for. And in your first statement, you're the one who's letting your personal tastes determine your comments. If these kinds of posts continue, expect them to be deleted.

Yeah, I count 17, so it isn't a lot. That surprises me, though, because Western music is fairly well known (especially the biggest hits). I've heard Kanye a lot in 7-11 and I know a bunch of people who listen to LMFAO or Queen or whoever.

The lack of Elton John on this lists baffles me.

The lack of Elton John on this lists baffles me.

Um...what? He's number three.

And I think you can make a better case for moving him above Zep then for moving Zep above Stevie. The fact that Zep wasn't a successful singles act is actually quite a big deal. It means that there was a big part of the music-buying public that didn't like them and often didn't know who they were. Zep may have sold more of their 70s albums than Stevie or Elton, but they were fairly close. Stevie and Elton were selling way, way more singles, were getting broader radio airplay, and were generally bigger and more popular stars. That puts them ahead of LZ in popularity and probably has an effect on their cultural impact as well.

I'm referring to gminer's chart information, not the overall list.
