I see that you base the part of acclaimence in the list that is is Acclaimed music, I would like to warn you that that list is not reliable because it doesn't take account of end of the decade list, and artist like Daft Punk that is classified 44 can make the top 10 in the next updated.

Permit me to ask a stupid question, I know that rap / hip hop technically are "rock" subgenres, but how is dance-pop (i.e. Lady Gaga) a form of rock?

Because it has its origins in the Disco, House, R&B, Synthpop.

And according to that is why is considered rock.

well if you want to talk about evolution, its closer to the origins of rock than any prog rock song you can find.

Structurally maybe. Tonally, definitely not.

please explain what you mean by that. its a heavy piano riff with a standard rock beat and some wah-drenched guitar and slap bass (computerized) in the background. tonally, as in? what? the difference is not in the music, its in the marketing.

The difference is in the production. How is Hit Me Baby more Rock than this, say?

They're both part of the umbrella term known as "rock". Still don't agree with Britney being in the top three, though.

I've never really understood where the line is drawn with DDD between pop and rock music. I would not give Britney a spot on a rock list when she is clearly pop, and nothing but.

are we even talking about music anymore, or just marketing terms? the kind of music that Britney does isn't even that far off from where rock n roll started, and certainly not as radical of a shift as hip hop, prog, or metal had at points in time. small influences have been added over time, sure (eurodance and electronica), but its still firmly rooted in early 70s funk and R&B. you can see a direct line from Stevie Wonder to MJ to what we call "pop" today. and its evolution has been fairly slow.

from now on, comment on that list if you can't read an article on rock history. sorry to be a dick, but this is getting frustrating. its not a matter of having a discussion on it. rock music is what it is. it has a shit ton of subgenres, but they are rock. different paths of evolution, same source. all the rest is radio formats and marketing terms, not anything rooted in the music itself.
