Is there? I don't see it. There used to be a list for this, but it's gone, now. I remember the top five being something like:

1. Led Zeppelin
2. Black Sabbath
3. Jimi Hendrix
4. The Who

I'd include some heavy metal, punk, alternative, and power-pop acts as well.

I'm explicitly excluding heavy metal, punk, and most alternative bands from this list because they have their own lists and fit other genres better than they fit pure hard rock. Power pop definitely has a place here though. I picture Cheap Trick rather high.

Absolutely. Cheap Trick is probably Top 15-worthy. Very influential, popular, and respected.

Well since you're excluding metal, I'd say something like this would be in order...

1. Led Zeppelin
2. The Who

4. Deep Purple

I really think this could be one of the better lists on ddd if we work on it...

Top 3 should be locked though:

1. Led Zep
2. The Who
3. JHE Experience

After that it gets a little trickier, imo.

Yeah. I mostly conceived this list to fit a lot of the underappreciated hard rock groups of the 70s. The ones with changing lineups that may be known for one or two songs, but get a ton of appreciation from other bands, hence Scorpions, Uriah Heep, Whitesnake, etc.

If metal and punk and alt are excluded because they have their own lists, then shouldn't glam also be excluded?
