I agree, Hendrix. I'd think New York Dolls made a big enough impact and were influential enough to make the Top 300. The same goes with Motorhead, and possibly Slayer, too.

First time I've looked at this list in awhile, I really like what we've got here.

Here's a list of artists of some significance that aren't on the list. The numbered ones are what look to me like the ones that come the closest, and the rest follow in alphabetical order. The numbering starts at 183 because the ones I added are in positions 101-182. Otherwise, those numbers don't mean anything.

183. Heart
184. The Monkees
185. Gene Vincent
186. Toots & the Maytals
187. Jimmy Buffett
188. Isaac Hayes
189. UB40
190. Lou Reed
191. Huey Lewis & the News
192. Ohio Players
193. Warren Zevon
194. Duran Duran
Captain Beefheart
Cheap Trick
Crystals
Dire Straits
The Fall
Megadeth
Motorhead
New York Dolls
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Nine Inch Nails
Pavement
PJ Harvey
Randy Newman
Rick James
Scorpions
Slayer
Stylistics
T. Rex
Wire
Linda Ronstadt
Luther Vandross

Brian,

You should probably have a tentative 200 list up; I think it would be easier than having to scroll through all the pictures and descriptions for the bottom portion of the list.

Wow, Chris F. rates Laura Nyro a greater rock artist than fellow Hall of Famers Ritchie Valens, Leonard Cohen and The Lovin' Spoonful.

Brian, what do you think of Paul Revere & The Raiders?

I don't think PR&tR have much going for them besides popularity. They do well in that, but Heart and The Monkees aren't on the list, to name a couple who are at least comparable to them in popularity, and probably stronger in the criteria overall.

OK, I'll add Chris' 181-198 to the post where I have 101-182. (Each of these will be 2 positions lower than where Chris had them because I moved up Eminem and combined McCartney & Wings.)

At some point I'll make some adjustments to the part of the list Chris did, and when I do, I think at least The Spoonful will be ahead of Nero.

The Lovin' Spoonful rating below Laura Nyro is the one that most surprised me.

That's right, although maybe they should be.

With 6 years passing since 181-300 were chosen, Kanye West was overdue for a promotion, so I've moved him to #109. I also did some minor rearranging of 101-150.

Great job, Brian.

Just one question: Do you think that Tina Turner and Whitney Houston could belong in top 101-150?

Thank you, Bruno.

I doubt it on Tina. I left Whitney off the list for being too pop, but maybe that should be reconsidered. If she makes the list, she might have a shot at that part of the list.

Would Hüsker Dü apply for the list? Not sure about their popularity, but critical impact is pretty great, and their influence within punk related genres and alt rock is large at least..
