I'm still fairly new, but I've never come into contact with Sampson. Does he even get online anymore?

I just had a glance, and he hasn't been online since late March. He might come back at some point - I certainly hope so. He had a bit of trouble with an annoying pest called Bruce which probably made him want to leave. He's probably the most knowledgeable rock historian the site has seen, so I'd certainly want to hear his thoughts on the Allmans before demanding them move 20 place ahead. I'm sure he's got some good reasoning for the artists ahead of them.

Thats probably true about him being the most knowledgeable. I've read some of his posts. I'd guess he was the driving force behind the forum from the sheer amount of information he posted.

His posts here are the only time he actually posted on the forum - he never posted on the old one.

Whats your opinion on the Allman Bros placement, Georgi?

sampson was an ace poster who never lost his cool and even though he knew a lot more, he had this way of not putting the other person down .... that was a quality i greatly admired ....

I think all the names ahead of them could definitely have reasonable arguments as to why they are ahead (except that I don't know much about Sam and Dave). Just because they're 22nd, doesn't mean all the good things about them that you guys have mentioned have been ignored.

I agree the Allmans at #22 is too low (fuckin' At Fillmore East man) but that's a bit dumb saying 'they have more live albums than studio therefore they're #1'. If that was the case, the grateful dead would be something like -1,000,000,000

Yeah--I can't see any case for putting the Allmans above the Dead on this list. (I do, however, think the Dead should be higher than they are, so I'm not ruling out moving the Allmans up too.) The Dead built an incredible career around live performances, even during periods where they weren't recording at all, and pretty much everything the Allmans did the Dead did bigger.

I think most people would agree that the Allmans had a more consistent rate of quality.

You've listened to 30 years worth of The Grateful Dead live then?

I've heard my fair share.
Come off it already, we know they're great, but even George has admitted that Garcia is boring at a certain point.

Yes but my point is that that's not relevant to this list.
